Rock climbing is a sport that has exploded over the past decade. Every year we are seeing more and more people pick up this wonderful activity. As the amount of people who participate increases, the climbing gear also has a simultaneous increase in innovation. Many times a day I’ll have my students ask me “what is the best rock climbing shoe?”. It’s difficult to answer and quite frankly, I didn’t know.
Your shoes are the only thing that is separating you from the rock face. Having the wrong style or fit will negatively affect your performance. It’s really important that you take some time, read up on different styles
I’ve spent the last three weeks researching the subject. I’ve come up with a list of what I believe to be the best rock climbing shoes. I compiled this list by using my own personal experiences, reviews, and trying out different climbing shoes from various well-known companies.
Before we begin, let’s look at what makes a good climbing shoe.
Comfort- It’s very important that your shoes are comfortable and fit well on your feet. If they don’t you may find yourself with some horrible blisters.
Durability- These shoes are going to be rubbing up and against hard surfaces every use. Most shoes won’t last more than a couple of months. I don’t know about you but I can’t afford to replace climbing shoes that often.
Support- Support is the most important aspect of climbing shoes. It helps relieve the pressure on your feet and forces proper foot stance.
